We designed and built a free-standing, fully three-dimensional tree sculpture in the style of an asymmetrical

bonsai tree for the Indonesian Fashion Designer Council. Their aim was to present a sustainable fashion collection called Indigo, and they wanted an exhibition stand which reflected the eco friendly values of the collection.

The bonsai tree sculpture was six metres wide, two metres deep and four metres tall, complete with raised flooring, which was covered in Pandan grass. The tree was modular-constructed in three separate pieces: the trunk and two core branches.We needed to construct it in this way due to unknown dimensions of the loading door on access to us. The sculpture gave the audience a 360 degree exhibition platform to view the Indigo Collection which was a collection of 12 sustainably-made, couture garments. Two core branches enabled a variation of levels to hang the collection.In addition to the signature asymmetrical bonsai form, we individually handcrafted 12 hangers modelled on organic branches that became decorative, filigree extensions to the branches. These branches were specifically engineered and designed to cater for the varying weight, length and visibility of each garment.
